Working in the field of animal jobs can be very rewarding for an animal lover. Animal careers run the gamut from veterinary technicians, who work within medical clinics to take care of sick pets and maintain the health of lively ones, to zoo keepers, who work with wildlife to maintain their comfort, safety and health within a zoo environment.

Perhaps the most typical animal job can be found at the veterinarian office. Jobs like kennel assistant generally require specialized training for the handling of animals, while veterinary technician positions can require further schooling and a state license. A vet tech assistant works under a licensed veterinarian to perform medical and emergency services on both domestic pets and wildlife that are taken into the clinic. The veterinarian tech helps the veterinarian perform surgeries, as well as take x-rays, perform laboratory tests and dispense medication.

Just like with humans, an animal services x-ray technician prepares the animal for the x-ray, then exposes the radiation and develops the outcome. The x-ray technicians work with the veterinarian technicians to decipher the image, alert the patient’s owner or caregiver on what the x-ray shows, and offer recommendations on the course of action.

There are several career paths that include work with wild animals within zoos, aquariums and research facilities.
